Minor Update + Future Projects

First of all, I want to thank the Metroidvania Month Jam and everyone involved for the support and feedback! The process of making my first game has been daunting, but everyone in the community made it feel all the more obtainable of a goal— whether by playing the game and giving me pointers or just showing me what was possible through their own games.

While meager, I've made these changes to Dreams Lost:

• Added the ability to skip the opening cutscene (ENTER, SPACE, GamePad B, and Gamepad A all should do the trick)
• Fixed a bug where Chry will get pushed back into a doorway by a enemy and be forever trapped in one of the tree houses

I've uploaded two new versions of Dreams Lost for both 32 and 64 bit Windows systems. Other platforms, unfortunately, require more testing as I was unable to get them to run successfully on my environments. That being said, I'm going to be putting a pin in this project until a later date.

This project and jam has been a great learning experience. Instead of trying to string together broken systems, however, I'm moving on to my next project and jam! When I have more time and a better understanding of code, I'd love to see how I can recreate this game. For now, it's time to keep learning.

I've signed up for three jams this summer! Which, while sounding even more ambition than this last project, is really just a case of three game jams having overlapping themes.

SuNoFes, Yaoi Game Jam 2022, and Trans Representation Jam 22 all allow me to put greater focus on what I feel comfortable with (writing) while providing a generous timeline (one month). Being a fan of both dating sims like Doukyuusei and adventure games like the Phoenix Wright series I've decided to combine both into one visual novel that has the protagonist searching for a balance between love and justice.

It's my hope that I can exercise all I learned on this project (both what to do and what not to do) in order to make a stable and finished game by the deadline! If you'd like to hear about future updates, be sure to follow my Itch.io page where I'll be posting my next game jam project.
